Tony Bullimore, the veteran sailor nicknamed “Captain Calamity”, has abandoned his attempt to beat Dame Ellen MacArthur’s solo round-world sailing record only 10 days into his quest.
Bullimore, who survived for five days in his upturned yacht during an attempt in 1997, was forced to quit his latest challenge after a bolt on his boat came loose.
